October 1, 2022 - Belgian Fashion Week, together with Philips, focuses on healthy shopping air

Philips Domestic Appliances provides cleaner and healthier air at fashion stores in Roeselare

Brussels, October 1, 2022 – The coronavirus pandemic has made people more aware of the importance of clean indoor air. A healthy environment where we can work and shop together safely is of paramount importance. As a partner of Belgian Fashion Week, Philips Domestic Appliances is installing an innovative air purifier at participating stores to create a healthier indoor climate for customers and store staff.

Isolde Delanghe, director of Mode Unie, explains enthusiastically: “With winter approaching, many fashion retailers are wondering out loud how they can offer their staff and customers good air quality without having to keep their doors open all day. It's cold and expensive, because you have to heat them extra. Together with Philips, partner of Belgian Fashion Week, we want to inspire our retailers with innovative solutions to offer healthier air.”

How air purifiers contribute to a healthier indoor climate for customers and store staff
Did you know you breathe a whopping 10,000 liters of air every day? And that indoor air can be 2 to 5 times more polluted than outdoor air? Philips Domestic Appliances builds on 41 years of expertise in developing air purifiers for cleaner and healthier air at home. An air purifier removes (fine) dust, allergens, aerosols, bacteria, and viruses from the air flowing through the filter. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Belgian government recommend using air purifiers as a supplement to ventilation.

Charis Lee-De Geus, Marketing Manager Air Benelux at Philips Domestic Appliances, explains: “People often think of healthy air as simply ventilation: open windows or doors and the problem is solved. But unfortunately, it's not that simple. Ventilation provides both air supply and exhaust, but it doesn't guarantee good air quality. The air that circulates can still be polluted or contain virus-carrying aerosols. With an air purifier, store staff can work with peace of mind while offering their customers cleaner, healthier air.”

Using air purifiers: an innovative solution in fashion retail

Research shows that using air purifiers reduces the number of aerosols in the air. Philips air purifiers have been tested by independent institutes for their ability to remove viruses in aerosols. They also remove other pollutants such as particulate matter, allergens, and bacteria. Philips air purifiers achieve a 99.97% efficiency for filtering 0.003 μm, the smallest particle available for testing. Installing portable air purifiers is therefore an effective, quick, and easy-to-use solution for healthier indoor air quality.

Ruben Van der Elst, co-owner of the Belgian fashion brand Marie Méro, was immediately enthusiastic and installed the air purifiers in all Marie Méro stores. He explains enthusiastically: “I recently read an article about the impact of air purifiers, so when Philips asked us to collaborate, we didn't hesitate for a moment. Everyone has become more aware of the importance of clean indoor air. We, too, believe it's important to offer our customers and staff a shopping experience in a healthier environment. It's not always easy to properly ventilate stores. Keeping our doors open all winter is absolutely not an option. Customers appreciate a pleasantly warm space, and we also want to save on energy costs. As a business owner, I can only applaud an innovative device that efficiently purifies the air and that you only need to plug in.”

Sustainability tip: Did you know that Philips air purifiers are very energy-efficient? The 1000 Series consumes a maximum of 27W, which is equivalent to that of an incandescent light bulb!

How does a Philips air purifier work?

Philips air purifiers utilize smart detection technology that draws pollutants into the device and channels them through a three-layered NanoProtect HEPA filtration system. The front filter captures the largest dust particles, the active carbon filter removes harmful gases and unpleasant odors, and the HEPA filter traps the finest particles—even as small as 0.003 microns (that's smaller than the world's smallest virus!). In short, 99.97% of particles that pass through the filter are removed. Once purified, the clean air exits through a 360-degree airflow at the top, reaching every corner of the room.
